Rees Family Services (RFS) is a contracted residential resource provider in good standing with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) and the Fraser Valley Aboriginal Children and Family Services Society (FVACFSS). We've been providing trusted services to MCFD since 1988 and work collaboratively with FVACFSS to serve youth in care between ages 13-19 in the upper Fraser Valley.
Our Care Model
We provide person-centred, staffed residential care and specialized services focusing on physical, emotional, developmental, and social growth toward independence and self-determination.
Our Values:
Person-centred practice - Every decision focuses on the individual's needs and goals
Honesty - We communicate transparently and build trust through authenticity
Integrity - We do what's right, even when it's difficult
Dignity - Every person deserves respect and compassionate treatment
Right to be heard - We value and actively listen to each person's voice
Right to safety - Everyone deserves a secure, nurturing environment
Human rights - We uphold and protect the fundamental rights of all persons served
Understanding Our Youth
A significant majority of the youth in our care are Indigenous. Many arrive with complex experiences of generational trauma that intersect with systemic oppression and inequities. The young people who come to us have typically experienced multiple residential placements before finding stability with us.
Many of our Youth are working through:
Mental health challenges including attachment disorders, depression, and trauma-related stress
Self-harming behaviours and emotional regulation difficulties
Aggressive behaviours stemming from past experiences
Sexual abuse trauma and related behavioural concerns
Substance use as a coping mechanism
Gaps in life skills development due to disrupted childhood experiences
Declaration of Committment
Rees Family Services is committed to embedding Indigenous cultural safety and reconciliation within our organization and practice. We recognize that the over representation of Indigenous children and youth in care results from colonialism, systemic racism, and institutional oppression. We're dedicated to learning about our shared history, addressing current inequities, and implementing cultural safety strategies throughout our work.
Indigenous peoples have an inherent right to exercise jurisdiction over their child and family services. RFS works respectfully with Indigenous communities while honouring this right and collaborating closely with FVACFSS to ensure culturally appropriate care.
Diversity and Inclusion
We acknowledge and celebrate the value of diverse communities. This includes respecting differences in culture, gender identity, age, abilities, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, socio-economic status, and language. We maintain an environment that supports these elements by promoting inclusion within our organization and the communities we serve.
